3d modeling and rendering 3D Modeling with Play-Doh from Technion Electrical Engineering Faculty

In this video the SIPL lab at Technion presents a demo system that we have developed for advanced 3D modeling techniques. In this demo application, the user chooses a 3D model and should build it as accurately as possible using Play-Doh in a limited time. The Play-Doh model is scanned and compared to the reference model. First, four depth cameras acquire a pointcloud of the model. Then, each pointcloud is processed to remove noise and the pointclouds are merges to reconstruct the full mode of the Play-Doh object. Finally, the set of points in the resulting model and reference model are compared. The user receives a score (between 1 and 5 stars) based on the accuracy of the match between the two models.
